Facial Therapy

I offer deep release facial therapy from a private home studio overlooking the beautiful Devon countryside, near Bickleigh, Tiverton.  Each session offers a quiet and therapeutic space to unclench, unwind,  and shift the body-mind from stress and vigilance to rest and restoration..

As a somatic yoga therapist I have come to understand how much our face reflects the story of our lives.  Our body, especially our face, often stores what the mind doesn't or cannot process, with patterns of stress, emotion, and thought showing up in our facial expression, muscles, fascia and skin. This relationship is bi-directional; meaning that facial expression  and tension can also influence our emotional state.

Several cranial nerves connect the face directly to the brain and autonomic nervous system, with fight or flight stress responses leading to:

- Tightening of the jaw or tooth grinding

- Facial pain or pressure

- Furrowing of the brow

- Tension or pinching around the eyes and mouth

- Bracing around the neck and shoulders

- Pressure and tension in and around the ear

- Fluttering/clicking/buzzing in the ear

- Sensitivity to sound

Over time patterns of tension become habitual, meaning our face can become a hot bed of tension and stress.  Releasing this tension can act directly on the nervous system and brain, facilitating deep states of relaxation. Facial massage can feel similar to meditation, with many clients noticing their mind becoming quiet or softly drifting.

Facial massage can be nourishing for anyone but is particularly helpful for:

- Stress, overwhelm, or burnout

- Busy minds

-Jaw tension & teeth grinding

- Poor sleep and fatigue

- All forms of pain

- People who struggle to relax

What to expect:

Deep release facial therapy is not the same as a facial.  I do not apply creams and masks, and I do not leave the room.  I use a simple oil - jojoba oil - on the face, neck, shoulders, and scalp and offer a full hour of intentional touch.

Using bespoke massage techniques to target chronic muscular holding patterns, facial tension, meridian lines, marma points, facial nerves, and the nervous system, I also include the ears and gentle hair pulling (with your agreement) as these areas are an under recognised  holder of tension.

Please note:

If possible come with a face free from make up, and please expect to get oil in your hair.

As this therapy uses massage and pressure techniques I do not recommend it for anyone who has had recent filler or botox, as it may be contraindicated.  I  am unable to offer guidance on when massage may be suitable after these treatments; please consult your physician/aesthetician.
